Don’t worry, 007 won’t be traveling the galaxy far, far away any time soon – although a little detour through space is nothing new to James Bond. But when Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy talks about the cop saga as inspiration for the future of “Star Wars,” there’s no question of orienting the content around the adventures of the man with the license to kill.
It’s about the intervals at which you want to bring new movies to the cinemas. After all, “Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens” (2015), “Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi” (2017) and “Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker” (2019) were released every other year – and with With such XXL blockbusters, this usually means that there is hardly any time between the post-production of the last film and the shooting of the new part, and that work is almost continuous in order to be able to follow a tight schedule.
But while the “Star Wars” universe is currently being expanded very regularly with new series, the last film was almost four years ago. And the next one won’t just start…
… and that is desirable, as Kathleen Kennedy now faces cheated. You don’t want to be pressured to release about one movie a year. Instead, every model is now a role model that Barbara Broccoli and Co. been pursuing for some time now with the ‘James Bond’ saga.
They want to turn ‘Star Wars’ movies into real events. The currently planned projects, which are already in full swing, should not appear until the time is right to implement them as the creators intended. “It’s best to tell the truth,” Kennedy said, revealing in the same breath: “There will be nothing in the cinemas before 2025.”
Kennedy somewhat echoes Marvel mastermind Kevin Feige, who commented a few months ago on “Marvel oversaturation”, which has been causing signs of fatigue for many MCU fans from the start – and promising improvement in terms of quality in instead of quantity. And as a film fan you can only applaud that. It’s better to have a good movie every five years than disappointments every year.
These “Star Wars” movies are currently in the works
Indiana Jones 5 creator James Mangold is currently working on a Star Wars film set 25,000 years before the Star Wars trilogies, going further back in time than any previous film in the series. In it, we will most likely meet the first Jedi and see how they learned to use the Force.
Many fans of the franchise should be particularly excited about Dave Filoni’s “Star Wars” movie. Ultimately, the minds behind Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, who’s also working on live-action formats like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, will more or less bring the Mandoverse to the big screen.
And then we can also expect “Star Wars 10”, set 15 years after “The Rise of Skywalker”, in which Daisy Ridley would return as Rey and build a new Jedi Order.
But when are all these movies coming out? Exactly that is still in the stars. And maybe that’s a good thing…
