We’ll have to wait a little longer for Gladiator 2 to hit theaters. The time has come on November 22, 2024 – at least in American cinemas. However, the German cinema release should be in the immediate vicinity of this date. Of course, we don’t yet know in detail what exactly awaits us. In fact, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator hit theaters 20 years ago and the sequel will take place 25 years later. With Normal People and Aftersun star Paul Mescal.
Mescal plays Lucios Versus, who was 13 years old in Gladiator (then played by Spencer Treat Clark). But of course the shooting star from Ireland won’t be the only one to be seen in the sequel. Denzel Washington and Barry Keoghan would also be in the cast, with Connie Nielsen – who played Versus’ mother in 2000’s “Gladiator” – reprising her role.
Now there is another casting report that causes a lot of enthusiasm. How reportedly “The Last Of Us” and “Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal starring in Gladiator 2. His commitment has not yet been officially confirmed, but negotiations are said to be nearing completion. However, it is not yet clear what role Pascal will slip into.
That’s what “Gladiator 2” will be about
As mentioned earlier, Gladiator 2 takes place 25 years after the first part and the focus of the story will be Lucius Versus, son of Lucilla (Nielsen). As a child, Lucius always admired Gladiator Maximus (played by Russell Crowe at the time) and even after all this time, Lucius has not forgotten his hero’s aura.
Barry Keoghan would slip into the villain role and thus Lucius’ counterpart. If the Hollywood rumors are true, he’ll be playing Emperor Septimius Geta, who was in fact once an emperor of the Roman Empire. What exactly the role, which is not necessarily based on true events, will look like, is not yet known.
By the way, “Gladiator” star Russell Crowe won’t be part of the sequel. You can read what he thinks about the whole thing here:
