Couples: Is blocking your ex a sign of immaturity?

A few years ago, the fact that you have a photo of your ex-partner at home reminded you of him or her, but today the situation is more complicated, because at the end of the relationship you can come across his picture on social networks.

Right now WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, among other technological means, will remind that person that they are no longer there.

Faced with this scenario, one may question whether taking the decision to block a partner is immaturity.

According to experts, this is not so “immature” nor is it a weakness.

“The pain that comes with a breakup can be very intense, so it is recommended on certain occasions, “eliminate” the stimuli that “emphasize” that pain: shared photos; the gifts he gave you; the “hoodie” you stole from him… and his social networks, says psychologist Mónica Garrido in a post on Instagram.

He adds: “If you are no longer together: what good would it do you to review yours publications? You know it will be with other people; in places that were special to you two; you might even see him posing next to that “you didn’t have to worry about” girl.

The expert suggests, in her publication in @psicologoenpanama, give each other the space they need to heal, “that doesn’t make you immature, that makes you human”.

According to other experts on the subject, blocking the ex is without a doubt a break that allows you to focus on yourself, on who you are now, what you want to do and rebuild without any distractions.

In addition, they believe that people would have more time to process their grief.

Its blocking or elimination will help that process to be faster and deeper, since we are not “physically distancing ourselves”, but also virtually.
