PC gamers haven’t had it easy over the past three years: supply chain issues, lack of availability and inflation have led to more than good and bad price hikes. In addition, the suggested retail price of the new models has been significantly increased. But there’s a glimmer of light on the horizon: NVIDIA’s new GeForce RTX 4070 breaks the magical $600 mark and delivers enough performance for WQHD and even 4K gaming in most games – and takes on the PS5.
You can obtain the model from the hardware specialist Alternate.de Gainward GeForce RTX 4070 Ghost for 599 euros.
Finally smooth gaming in 4K and WQHD with ray tracing and DLSS 3.0
The RTX 4070 is the latest addition to NVIDIA’s 4000 series and is the value for money gamers have been waiting for. It delivers strong performance in demanding games such as “Hogwarts Legacy”, “Star War Jedi: Survivor” or “Elden Ring”. In addition, there is NVIDIA’s ray tracing technology, which simulates the course of light rays and shadows in an ultra-realistic way. Ray tracing makes your games feel truly next-gen. At the same time, NVIDIA has managed to greatly reduce power consumption. Such an efficient graphics card has long ceased to exist.
Artificial intelligence is also a problem for graphics cards. NVIDIA uses an algorithm that calculates a low-resolution image in real time and then scales it back up. The result is a huge performance boost. In some games you get almost twice as many frames per second (FPS – Frames Per Second). However, not all PC games are supported. For supported titles, the AI upscaler DLSS 3.0 is a real game changer.
Why the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 is better than the PS5
While the PlayStation 5’s performance certainly doesn’t have to hide, it does have its limitations. Games in 4K run at a maximum of 60 FPS and usually not in “true 4K resolution”. The RTX 4070* Depending on the title, it can even reach 90 FPS in native 4K resolution. With a correspondingly powerful gaming PC in the back, the PS5’s NVIDIA card gallops away.
However, with extremely demanding titles, such as the infamous sci-fi spectacle “Cyberpunk 2077”, the RTX 4070 also runs out of breath. If you only want to play blockbuster games (also called “AAA titles”) in 4K at the highest settings, then you should at least go to the big sister RTX 4070TI* or reach for AMD’s competition, which with the Radeon 7900XT* enormous amount of power.

But we don’t want to deprive you of the benefits of a gaming computer either. Besides the convenience of gaming on the couch – alone or with friends – most games are optimized for the consoles so that they run smoothly and can be played without any problems. Also, you rarely have to deal with hardware or software problems. A console is a bit like an iPhone: you buy it once and you don’t have to worry about it.
