One of his last movies: “Heat” and “Saving Private Ryan” with Tom Sizemore in the action trailer for “Breakout”

Tom Sizemore once played major roles in movie masterpieces such as Michael Mann’s “Heat”, Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan” or Oliver Stone’s “Natural Born Killers”. In recent years, however, Detroit mime has been almost exclusively engaged in low-cost productions such as “Megalodon Rising” or “Bullet Train Down”. Sizemore filmed Breakout shortly before his death in March 2023. The thriller doesn’t exactly look earth-shatteringly original, but this should probably make it a must-see, at least for Sizemore fans.

In North America, the actioner launched on April 11, 2023 as video-on-demand. When and how we will see “Breakout” in this country has not yet been announced.

These are the director and cast of “Breakout”

The film is directed and scripted by Brandon Slagle, who recently made his way to local home theaters with “Battle For Saipan”. He already worked with his “Breakout” protagonist Louis Mandylor (“Rambo 5: Last Blood”).

In addition to Mandylor, Kristos Andrews (“Killing Field”), Brian Krause from the original “Charmed” series, Noel Gugliemi (“Fresh Off The Boat”) and – as mentioned at the beginning – Tom Sizemore were also on the cast list.

“Breakout”: that’s the story

At Breakout we see a kind of ”That hardscenario ‘in prison’, when criminal Max Chandler (Brian Krause) takes an entire prison hostage, holding inmates and guards hostage during an internal parole hearing. Because the former Los Angeles Police Department explosives expert had his accomplices defuse the entire high-security building with explosives.

Alex Baros (Louis Mandylor) turns out to be Chandler’s main opponent. The ex-elite soldier is on the scene because he wants to visit his imprisoned son Vincent (Kristos Andrews). The highly trained Baros manages to evade Chandler’s kidnappers. So he now tries to end the life-threatening situation from the inside and save his descendants who are in the power of the psychopathic villain.

Meanwhile, Chaz Coleman (Tom Sizemore) takes up position outside the prison walls with a heavily armed SWAT team. Officially, the LAPD officer is here to negotiate with the kidnapper. But it soon becomes clear that the completely unpredictable agent has his own goals…
