“Monsters”, “Godzilla”, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”: Director Gareth Edwards has clearly specialized in the science fiction genre with his first three feature films, and he apparently makes no attempt to look elsewhere: Also Edwards’ next movie”The creator‘ (formerly known as ‘True Love’) will be a sci-fi movie. The first images of “The Creator” were shown at the CinemaCon in Las Vegas, which has just ended – apparently reminding Edwards of the strengths of his first and best film”samplescan connect.
Human vs AI
“The Creator” tells a story that fits perfectly in the year 2023, which is characterized by the AI hype surrounding ChatGPT and Co.: In the not-too-distant future, a war is raging between humans and robots. Between the fronts is the family of protagonist John David Washington (“Tenet”), whose daughter is an android.
In the scenes shown, the little robot girl allegedly asks what heaven is, to which her human father explains to her that you have to be a good person to go to heaven. Also more moments in the first trailer promise a story with “emotional core” and “down-to-earth realism”said a reporter present at the site formulated.
“Monsters” also inspired us (and many others) as a “breathtaking blend of love story, social critique and haunting sci-fi utopia, which despite so many genre movie references can stand on its own as an innovative work of art,” as our review says.
Great pictures & action like “District 9” & “Blade Runner”
compares the images shown with Neil Blomkamp’s great “District 9”, while the trade magazine does not even shy away from comparisons with the really great science fiction classics: Against “The Creator” see the production design of “knife runner“looks like children’s thingslike that . Cinematographer Greig Fraser, who recently won an Oscar for “Dune” and is also responsible for the great shots of “Rogue One” and “The Batman”, should definitely have his part in this.
But The Creator also brings out the more action-packed side of Gareth Edwards that the director has shown in Rogue One and Godzilla. So there is talk of “beautiful battle scenes” in front of a tropical backdropwhere the laser beams just hiss through the area.
“The Creator” will run in German cinemas from October 5, 2023.
