Construction work, cars or lawnmowers: Loud noises are ubiquitous, especially in urban areas. According to the Federal Environment Agency, one in every seven people in Switzerland is greatly affected by noise – more than a million people. “This means that their well-being and quality of life in their place of residence is very limited. “This means they have health problems due to noise pollution,” says Nicole Baumann, health expert for the Swiss Noise Association.
It’s hard to imagine a technologically advanced and industrialized noiseless society these days. But when does sound really turn into noise? At what point does noise cause stress and health problems? How do we deal with this as a society? Who can the affected people contact?
