Film history shows that it is not only for revolutionary masterpieces to achieve cult status. It is not for nothing that “SchleFaZ” enjoys enormous popularity. After all, the TV format with Oliver Kalkofe and Peter Rütten is not about the best, but about the worst films of all time. Absolutely exceptional cases in which the screen is misused as a stage for a cabinet of curiosities. Movies with big stars who probably want to erase from the collective memory that they ever stood in front of the camera for such nonsense. Movies like the one that’s new to home theater this week:
“Grizzly II: Revengewas filmed in 1983, but not completed until 2020 (!) and officially published for the first time. But has the film world been waiting for this? Well… At least a small part of it. In any case, “SchleFaZ” fans could look forward to a very special gift. Finally, in 2022, director André Szöts’ long-forgotten horror thriller, starring a host of superstars, landed in the popular Tele 5 format, where the curiosity got the credit it deserved. The movie will now be released on DVD and Blu-ray on April 28, 2023:
The film has already been released in a limited edition Mediabook Edition* (in four cover versions!), which collectors can usually imagine as a dark delicacy. If you don’t want to spend more money than necessary for one of the worst movies of all time – cult status or not – then you’re better off with the standard version. Prime subscribers, on the other hand, have it particularly good: The insane, legendary bad movie is also currently available at no extra cost with an Amazon Prime Video subscription:
The author of this article can only advise all fans of unusual entertainment to see this insanely unique piece at least once – even if this recommendation contains as much advice as it does warning.
In the end, “Grizzly II” will cost you a life you will never get back. With a playing time of 74 minutes, the damage is still limited…
“Grizzly II”: animal horror revenge ripper
Acting as a sequel to William Girdler’s 1976 “Grizzly,” the film tells the story of a giant grizzly bear who embarks on a bloody vendetta after his cub is shot dead by poachers. And to the regret of those people who are around for an outdoor concert.
It’s now up to ranger Nick Hollister (Steve Inwood) to team up with bear expert Samantha Owens (Deborah Raffin) and veteran hunter Bouchard (John Rhys-Davies) to find a quick solution before an unprecedented carnage ensues…
Grizzly II is considered one of the worst movies of all time. This is underlined by the average ratings on various movie rating platforms such as (7 out of 100), (2.8/10) or too (8 percent positive).
The miserable special effects and, for example, the bear attacks are criticized, which, as a potential highlight of the film, are completely disappointing because they are unfortunately not implemented too skillfully. Dennis Harvey van also describes the film as an “unfinished mess” – and the author of this article can only agree: in the Frankenstein-esque hodgepodge of archive material and film scenes, nothing somehow fits together, which makes the film just makes it more insane and in the end somehow more fun.
Of course, the absolute highlight is that this pickle comes with a star ensemble that even big blockbusters can envy. Not only “Lord of the Rings” and “Indian Jones” cult star John Rhys-Davies or “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” terror sister Louise Fletcher await you here, but with “Two And A Half Men” icon Charlie Onder Sheen- and Oscar winners George Clooney and Laura Dern are also some of the biggest Hollywood stars of our time.
