That’s why the Coachella festival isn’t cool anymore

Stars and especially little stars mark two particularly busy weekends in their calendars each year. Namely the one where the legendary Coachella festival takes place. The second round will take place this weekend. However, the hype around the desert festival seems to be slowly waning.

Since 2012, Coachella the festival of the year. Thousands of festival-goers end up in the California desert town of Indio every year. Now stars and “normal people” seem to be slowly but surely turning away from Coachella. Here are the reasons:

Coachella has been the Valhalla of influencers for years. However, appearances can be deceiving! A few days ago, a video of singer Loren Gray went viral on TikTok. In the clip, she revealed that many of the influencers don’t even participate in the festival. The content creators simply rented an Airbnb in the desert, took pictures of unusual outfits there, and then posted them on Instagram. However, many are not actually on site.

When the Coachella hype started, fashion was one of the festival’s biggest selling points. Fashion lovers went there not for the music, but to showcase their outfits. There were entire fashion collections inspired by the Coachella festival. But this is now changing. Stars like Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner started appearing in the so-called ‘norm core’ last year. That means: Your outfits are as basic and boring as possible. So stand out by being inconspicuous.

This trend has now continued. Many of the outfits shown are no longer as spectacular as in recent years. With this, Coachella loses one of its most important trademarks.

Stars used to go to Coachella because it was cool to be there. Nowadays people go to the festival because it’s good for the brand. Many of the celebrities who hang out on the site are mainly there to promote something. For example, Kendall Jenner advertises their 818 Tequila there.

Other stars, such as Vanessa Hudgens – who is considered the queen of Coachella – have not even made an appearance at the festival this year. Otherwise there are less and less Instagram posts about the A-Celebrity Festival.

Although the Coachella is slowly losing its appeal, you don’t see that reflected in the prices, on the contrary. A normal ticket for a weekend indie festival costs around 600 dollars. VIPs pay twice as much. There are also accommodation costs and the food is anything but cheap. A visitor’s TikTok went viral this weekend, sharing what she ate for a day and how much she spent on it. Spoilers: a lot!
