After “Game Of Thrones” and “House Of The Dragon”, a third Westeros series titled “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” awaits us. The American broadcaster HBO and parent company Warner revealed this on April 12, 2023 during a conference. And ‘Game Of Thrones’ father George RR Martin has now confirmed the message on his blog . But Martin also had some other information ready about the new series, including the rather awkward title.
According to George R. R. Martin, “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” is just the working title of the series. Whether it will also be the final title, he cannot say with certainty at the moment. But one thing is certain: “We want ‘knight’ in the title. Chivalry and chivalry are central to these stories,” says Martin.
We can also imagine that the “Game Of Thrones” brand could end up in the title. Maybe the series will be called “Game Of Thrones: A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms” or something like that.
Why not “Dunk & Egg”?
The author also explained why the series is not called Tales Of Dunk & Egg, or The Adventures Of Dunk & Egg, or Dunk & Egg. That’s what the two main characters are called, Ser Duncan the Great and his squire Aegon, and that’s also the umbrella term for the adventures of the two in fan circles.
“I love Dunk and I love Egg and I know fans refer to my novellas as ‘the stories of Dunk & Egg’,” says Martin. “But there are millions of people who don’t know these stories and the title should also appeal to them. If you don’t know the characters, ‘Dunk & Egg’ sounds like a sitcom.”
George RR Martin not involved as an author after all?
Otherwise, he couldn’t reveal too much about “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” Martin continued. But he did reveal a few details: The first season will likely consist of six episodesn (as much as the eighth season “Game Of Thrones”).
Also, as Martin further explained, Season 1 is just an adaptation of the first “Dunk & Egg” novella “The Hedge Knight”., which appeared in Germany as Der Heckenritter. Next to an Graphic novel adaptation* All three novellas published to date are also available in the anthology “The Hedge Knight of Westeros: The Judgment of the Seven”:
According to Martin, the script for the pilot episode has already been completed and prepared by Ira Parker (“House Of The Dragon”), who also appears to be the series’ showrunner. As Martin writes, Parker has assembled a “small but very talented” team of writers who are already busy writing. Just like Martin put all that on phrased, it doesn’t sound like he’s part of this team himself, even though he’s on board as a producer anyway. Martin was originally rumored to be writing the script(s) for the series himself, along with Ira Parker.
Already planning for season 2 and 3 and more
Martin also ventured a cautious look into the future: if “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms” becomes a success, the other two Heckenritter novellas “The Sworn Sword” and “The Mystery Knight” will also be adapted accordingly. That would be seasons 2 and 3 of the series.
In addition, another half-dozen or so other novellas are in the pipeline, for which Martin just needs to find space in his chronically overcrowded schedule. In addition, he is also working on the two latest “Das Lied von Eis und Feuer” novels “The Winds Of Winter” and “A Dream Of Spring” and on a second part of the “House Of The Dragon” template “Feuer en Blut “. “…
Since it will be quite some time before the first season of “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms” comes out, let alone seasons 2 and 3, Martin still has a few years to go. More information about all announced and possibly now retired ‘Game Of Thrones’ series can be found in this article:
