Now the Marvel cat is finally out of DC’s pocket: before Easter, Frank Grillo had revealed that after an overall disappointing MCU career as the villainous Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, he would be switching to direct competition, namely to DC. In doing so, he does it in the same way as director James Gunn (“Guardians Of The Galaxy 1-3”), who recently watched over the ups and downs of the DC Universe with Peter Safran. But Grillo isn’t the only Marvel star to have a role at DC.
Meanwhile, the full cast of the DC animated series “Creature Commandos”, in which Frank Grillo will be heard, has also been confirmed (actual film appearances of the speakers are also planned later). And Grillo is also part of this ensemble three other stars you know (not only, but at least) from the previous films and series of the Marvel Cinematic Universet: David Harbor (Red Guardian from Black Widow), Maria Bakalova (Cosmo from Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin from the GotG movies).
This is the cast of “Creature Commandos”
- Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
- David harbour like Frankenstein
- Indira Varma as the bride
- Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus
- Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic
- Sean Gun as Weasel AND GI Robot
- Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky
- Steve Agee as John Economos
DC fans already know office stallion John Economos from James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker”. Like Weasel, aka “The Suicide Squad,” he is a sign that the old DCEU will live on, at least in part, in the new DC Universe (DCU).
The name Rick Flag may also sound familiar to some, as that’s the name of the character played by Joel Kinnaman from “Suicide Squad” and “The Suicide Squad.” Logically, this character’s father, Rick Flag Senior, is an experienced pilot and team leader in the DC Comics.
Doctor Phosphorus comes in the form of a burning skeleton and has radioactive powers. Nina Mazursky is an amphibious creature inspired by The Horrors of the Amazon, and GI Robot is unsurprisingly a combat robot in a soldier’s uniform. The characters Frankenstein and The Bride are probably closely related, after all, Frankenstein’s monster and the title character from “Frankenstein’s Bride” are hidden behind them.
Princess Ilana Rostovic, on the other hand, is a special case because, as Gunn has confirmed in a series of tweets, among others, she is a reinvented character. What role the princess plays in the “Creature Commandos” we will find out at the latest with the release of the series in the course of 2024.
