Lucas Helmke is the new push-ups world record holder. CNN reports this on the basis of the “Guinness Book of Records”. The 33-year-old Australian did a total of 3,206 push-ups within an hour in a gym in Brisbane. It is the fourth time in three years that the world record has been broken.

The previous record holder was Daniel Scali, also from Australia, who set 3,182 per hour. Two other previous record holders also came from Australia. Helmke then set the most recent record in November – but only now has his achievement been confirmed and published by the Guinness Book. Helmke recently published the corresponding certificate on Facebook.
According to the Guinness Book, Helmke said he trained for two to three years for the attempt. He wanted to inspire his one-year-old son that “nothing is impossible”. He will tackle more push-up records in the future.
