When it comes to favorite and best sitcoms of all time, the US version of The Office and Parks And Recreation deserve a mention (both also feature on our sitcom leaderboard). Among other things, what sets the two formats apart is their enormous potential for multiple views – which is ultimately what sets a good sitcom apart. Both “The Office” and “Parks And Recreation” thrive on a seemingly unending sense of situational comedy (which often turns into the deliberately unpleasant).
Haven’t seen “The Office” and “Parks And Recreation” yet? Then this news should make you very happy: the two extremely popular comedy series will soon be available for free streaming on Joyn: While the nine seasons of “The Office” will begin on May 15, 2023, all seven seasons of “Parks And Recreation” will be available on the platform from April 15.
Joyn is a streaming service from the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, with which you can watch more than 60 TV channels (e.g. ProSieben or Kabel 1) live. There is also an extensive media library where you have access to series and films (including many of Joyn’s own productions). Totally free. On the other hand, you have to pay for Joyn PLUS+: there you have access to 70 TV channels (6 of which are pay TV channels) and an even larger media library. The first month is free here, after that the subscription costs 6.99 euros per month.
That’s what “The Office” and “Parks And Recreation” are about
If you’ve never heard of the sitcoms, this is the place to inquire: “The Office” is the American remake of the British original, which was also called “The Office” (and at the same time a model for the German cult series Stromberg). In it, a camera crew follows the chaotic bustle in the office of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. The whole is led by Steve Carell, who as boss Michael Scott could grow into an absolute meme star. In addition, stars such as John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson and Ed Helms are also present.
“Parks And Recreation” is all about Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), who works in the parks department of the quiet town of Pawnee. She dreams of becoming the first female president of the United States one day and is therefore committed to her work with all her determination. But the bureaucratic hurdles she faces grow along with her ambitions. In addition to Amy Poehler, the cast also includes Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza and Aziz Ansari.
Incidentally: The fact that “The Office” and “Parks And Reaction” are now coming to Joyn is due to a new licensing agreement between ProSiebenSat.1 and NBCUniversal. As a result, numerous other formats will soon find their way to the platform. Apart from that, all seasons of “The Office” are currently also available on Netflix, while the free Amazon service Freevee has at least the first two seasons of “Parks And Recreation”.
