The trailer for the second season of “Star Wars: Visions”, which we included for you above, should certainly pique your curiosity: the next issue of the anthology project will be even more colorful, creative and diverse than in part 1 – if that is even possible. Because this time, not only Japanese anime studios contributed short films, but animation studios from all over the world.
As the second season of “Star Wars: Visions” was presented at the 2023 Easter Weekend Star Wars Celebration in London, the creators of all nine projects took the stage and spoke about their work, the inspiration behind their “Star Wars” story and their respective animation style. Magdalena Osinska was also a guest, she directed for the legendary British animation studio Aardmanfor example, who is behind “Wallace & Gromit” and “Shaun the Sheep”, the short film “I am your mother”. And this was shown exclusively for the audience.
The unique Aardman handwriting is clearly visible in the above photo of the stage presentation, and you can also see scenes from I Am Your Mother in the trailer linked above (complete with the absolutely gorgeous Aardman Wookie!). And the full stop-motion movie is something to look forward to – because it is a beautiful looking, imaginative and detailed animated adventure with the heart in the right place. And of course with a lot of “Star Wars” DNA.
Because the movie title’s allusion to Darth Vader’s famous line “I am your father” isn’t the only Easter egg in the short! To be honest, there were so many details that the author of these lines could hardly comprehend them all, and I Am Your Mother will definitely be checking back on Disney+ to discover all the references.
The villains’ helmet-like hairstyles, a Mandalorian welder’s mask, a mini-Death Star as an extendable starship weapon, and the appearance of Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles (voiced by original “Star Wars” actor Denis Lawson) are really just the tip. of the Easter egg icebergs.
“I Am Your Mother”: not only funny, but also heartwarming
In addition, you can open yourself probably the cutest droid pet in Star Wars history looking ahead – keyword: accordion. We will not spoil more, we do not want to spoil this surprise for you. But in addition to all these gimmicks and Easter eggs, which are admittedly a lot of fun, the story of “I Am Your Mother” is particularly important – and director Magdalena Osinska is particularly concerned about this and at the same time tells it in a funny and moving way in her film
Based on the original trilogy, the short adventure follows young Twi’lek pilot Anni as she teams up with her chaotic and often embarrassing mother, Kalina, to win a family race. And mothers don’t often appear in movies, but they are the real superheroes, Osinska said at the Star Wars Celebration.
The nine “Star Wars: Visions – Volume 2” short films will be available from May 4, 2023 Disney+. Then the new animated series “Star Wars: The Adventures of the Young Jedi”, specially developed for children, will also start.
