In November 2021, action icon Sylvester Stallone announced in a behind-the-scenes video that he would be part of the cast of “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3”. In James Gunn’s MCU sequel, Sly will reprise his role as space pirate Stakar Ogord, in whom he already played a few short scenes in “Guardians of the Galaxy part 2embodied. And a new trailer for the sequel now offers the first mini glimpse of Stallone’s Marvel return (at age 40):
Since it’s easy to miss Stallone in the quick succession of images (much like the guest appearance of “Firefly” and “Castle” star Nathan Fillion), we’ve recaptured him as a still image below. This shows Stakar Ogord clearly in space suit in spacewhich is based on his costume from part 2 (see article photo above).
How big Sylvester Stallone’s role will be in “Guardians Of The Galaxy 3” is still unclear. However, since he’s been absent from the promo material so far and also only appears briefly in the above clip, we’re assuming the part will be similar in scope to part 2, where it went beyond just a cameo, but even more a small supporting role.
Will we see the original Guardians in action?
Still, the appearance of Stakar Ogord could mean that in addition to the grand farewell performance of the Guardians in their familiar form, we will also see the actual original Guardians.
Because in the history of Marvel Comics, it wasn’t the motley crew of Star-Lord that first appeared as Guardians Of The Galaxy (they’ve only been around since 2008), but a team led by Stakar aka Starhawk, who in the over the years the characters Charlie-27, Martinex, Mainframe and Krugarr also appeared, as well as Stakar’s adoptive sister and later wife Aleta. And exactly this compilation was already teased in one of the credits scenes of “Guardians Of The Galaxy 2”. Whether we will see the group played there again by prominent artists such as Michelle Yeoh, Ving Rhames and Michael Rosenbaum remains to be seen.
However, the focus will be on the well-known MCU Guardians around Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Original voice: Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Original voice: Vin Diesel), who deal with both the vengeful High Priestess Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) and her creation Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) and the mighty High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” hits theaters May 3, 2023.
