Sometimes James Wan (“Malignant”) himself will be amazed at how masterful he is at creating highly successful horror series. “Saw” from 2004 made the start here, and this year it’s already the tenth round with “Saw X”. Then it continued with “Insidious” in 2010 – and in July of this year “Insidious 5: The Red Door” will be released in Germany. James Wan then outdid himself with “The Conjuring”. The paranormal retro horror went on to become the most successful horror franchise of all time with worldwide sales of $2.1 billion.
The “Conjuring” universe not only includes the “Conjuring” films themselves – three parts have already been released, a fourth is currently being shot – but also the “Annabelle” series, “The Nun”, which we will be introduced to this year, is also expected a sequel and “The Curse of Llorona”. But that is not enough: As has now been announced, the “Conjuring” franchise is also being expanded with a series. However, fans of horror movies should be prepared for change.
Not horror but drama?
How etc deadline reports, the “Conjuring” series is a sequel that expands and continues the story of the films. The special thing should be that the focus of the action will not be on the horror, but on the drama. An official confirmation of this is still pending. The series is produced by New Line Cinema, while Warner Bros. Television develops the format. The series will later appear on HBO Max. It is not clear on which streaming service this will be published in Germany.
It is not yet known whether Patrick Wilson as Ed and Vera Farmiga as Lorraine Warren will return for the series. As for the content, no details are known yet. Peter Safran, producer of The Conjuring films, is on board as an executive producer. It’s unclear if James Wan will also serve as an executive producer on the production.
