The future of the “Star Wars” cinema was a bit uncertain after many postponements and project cancellations, but now Lucasfilm seems to be finally getting back to work. At the Star Wars Celebration currently taking place in London, which FILMSTARTS editor Annemarie will also be attending (see tweet below), details were revealed about three upcoming “Star Wars” films – two of which were even completely new. We give you an overview of the three projects:
James Mangold Star Wars movie The project from Indiana Jones 5 and Logan creator James Mangold is set 25,000 years in the past and shows us the very first Jedi and how they learned to use the Force.
Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Movie: A true fan dream come true with the signing of Dave Filoni for a live-action Star Wars movie, the mastermind behind the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, as well as the live-action productions “The Mandalorian,” ” The Book of Boba Fett” and “Ahsoka” are more popular. In line with the latter, his movie is meant to be the grand culmination of all his “Star Wars” series on the big screen.
Star Wars movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy: It had been rumored before that this Star Wars adventure could become a Star Wars 10 of sorts, bringing back characters from the sequel trilogy – and that’s exactly what has now been confirmed. Set 15 years after Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker, the untitled film sees Rey (Daisy Ridley) building a new Jedi Order. The screenplay is being written by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, replacing previously written Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson.
On the other hand, at the Star Wars Celebration, not a word was lost on the previously promised “Star Wars” movies from Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy and Rian Johnson. However, that does not necessarily mean that these are already off the table, but possibly only that the other three projects have priority for the time being.
