It’s been more than 30 years since “Manta, Manta” became a blockbuster hit in 1991. Now the belated sequel “Manta, Manta – Zwoter Teil” is currently running in cinemas. It looks like Til Schweiger can once again build on the success of the debut (and maybe even surpass it in the coming weeks). It remains to be seen how well the film will ultimately perform at the box office. So far, however, the numbers speak for themselves.
This logically leads to the question of whether a “Manta, Manta – Part Three” is being considered. There are probably not two opinions here, because if the second part brings the necessary success and in the end perhaps even exceeds expectations, a next sequel will certainly be decided quickly. And it certainly won’t be 30 years before we see Bertie on screen again.
Schweiger had big plans with “Manta, Manta 2”.
First of all, it should be made clear that no plans for a third part have been made public so far. Likewise, there is no confirmation that “Manta, Manta 3” has been greenlit. But what is known is the fact that Til Schweiger was actually pursuing bigger goals with “Manta, Manta 2”. Originally he wanted to make a two-part (!) of the sequel.
But nothing came of that, which ultimately also meant that Til Schweiger had to pretty much gut “Manta, Manta 2” to bring a version to theaters that wasn’t completely out of scope. Nevertheless, “Manta, Manta 2” is bursting at the seams when it comes to its massive roster of characters (including cameos) – and celebrities like jungle queen Evelyn Burdecki or “popsicle” icon Zachi Noy have even been cut from the film, though they had their scenes already shot. You will certainly be able to watch this in the bonus features on the Blu-ray.
What could Manta, Manta 3 be about?
Since, as expected, there is a happy ending at the end of “Manta, Manta 2”, in which Bertie not only wins the big race on Bilster Berg, but also has his Uschi (Tina Ruland) by his side again, one would According to logic if anything, of Til Schweiger movies, we expect “Manta, Manta 3” to focus more on the married life of the two Ruhrpott originals. There could probably be another serious crisis, because Bertie just can’t manage to finally grow up…
But it could also be that in “Manta, Manta 3” the von Tim Olivier Schultz Daniel, the son of Bertie and Uschi, plays the central role. He inherited not only his father’s temperament, but also his passion for cars. It is therefore conceivable that the third part focuses on the father-son relationship and shows how the duo now work together in the workshop and keep getting in each other’s way, even though they actually love each other very much.
The author of these lines only has the fervent wish that the relationship between Klausi (Michael Kessler) and Siri (Nilam Farooq) in “Manta, Manta 3” does not play too much of a role. And if so, then it should finally be emphasized that Klausi is a semi-tangible character and not just the perfect one. crazy bang, who is constantly there to be laughed at mercilessly. Accordingly, it also seems questionable (and creepy) in “Manta, Manta 2” that Siri could have romantic feelings for Klausi at all.
Whether there will be a “Manta, Manta 3” remains to be seen. And if so, you will of course find out immediately at FILMSTARTS. At the moment, however, Til Schweiger is busy with other things: he can be seen with Henry Cavill in Guy Ritchie’s “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare”. For this he has “The best has yet to come“A new directorial work is already being made, which must also run in cinemas this year: namely on December 7, 2023.
