When “Barbie” was announced, most people probably had a few question marks circling over their heads. Is this a biopic about the development of the famous and now rather discredited doll? Not at all. Director Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”) takes a different tack, narrating “Barbie” as a gaudy social satire. The new trailer makes it clear that you can expect a lot of uninhibited behavior here.

In “Barbie” we find ourselves in Barbieland. It is especially important that everything is in order: the haircut must fit, the clothes must be chic and the shoes must be a real eye-catcher. It’s the perfect world. At least at first glance. But the plastic paradise also has a dark side: those who do not comply with the law are thrown out.
When one of the Barbies (Margot Robbie) acts a little too eccentric, the community decides, she is banished and left to make ends meet in the real world. She learns that true perfection isn’t just about looking perfect. She wants to share this knowledge with the other Barbies in Barbieland and returns to her former home…
While Greta Gerwig directs and writes, Ryan Gosling (“Blade Runner 2048”) and Margot Robbie (“The Wolf Of Wall Street”) take on the lead roles. However, there are other interesting names to discover in the cast of the film. Also appearing are Issa Rae (“Insecure”), Hari Nef (“Assassination Nation”), Simu Liu (“Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings”), Kate McKinnon (“Ghostbusters”), Will Ferrell (” Die Eisprinzen”), America Ferrera (“WeCrashed”) and Marisa Abela (“Back To Black”).
