The Game of Iron Throne continues – and this time we go back to the very beginning: after “Game Of Thrones” and “House Of The Dragon” is now another project based on George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books, centering on Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters and wives Visenya and Rhaenys. This is reported by the American trade magazine .
Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys have all been mentioned in Game Of Thrones and House Of The Dragon, playing marginal roles there: It was they who came to Westeros from Valyria with their dragons Balerion, Meraxes and Vhagar and conquered six of the seven kingdoms (Dorne only later became part of the Seven Kingdoms). Aegon forged the Iron Throne from the swords of his vanquished opponents and became Aegon I, the first king of Westeros.
How reported, the project is still in a very early stage, which is why there are currently no staff in front of or behind the camera. However, the project is “actively discussed”, according to the trade magazine. Moreover, the search for authors has already begun. And there is another exciting aspect to the whole thing:
Movie first, then series?
Because loud if the project “Aegon the Conqueror” may not be a pure series, but also include a movie. “Game Of Thrones” parent broadcaster HBO and Studio Warner, which belongs to the same group, could therefore produce a feature film “Aegon the Conqueror”, which then serves as a prelude to a possible series.
A kind of extra long and very complex pilot episode, as you only know it from the classic series that this movie could then be released because of Warner’s involvement. A streaming or TV publication is also conceivable. Anyway, the plans here are still in flux writes.
Besides “Aegon The Conqueror”, many other “Game Of Thrones” projects are in development, such as a series about Jon Snow. But many of them will never see the light of day, as will a planned prequel with the working title “The Long Night”, which even has a pilot episode shot. However, we could very well imagine an “Aegon” series (or a movie) as it would be closely related in content and theme (keyword: dagger) to “Game Of Thrones” and “House Of The Dragon”.
What is certain is that a second season of “House Of The Dragon” is currently being filmed and will probably be released on HBO (and in Germany on Sky/WOW) in 2024.
