The probably somewhat freer remake of “Witchboard – Die Hexenfalle” focuses on an engaged couple who want to open a cafe in New Orleans. During the process, Emily finds the eponymous witch board, causing evil forces to take possession of her. In his distress, her betrothed Christian turns to the mysterious occultist Alexander Babtiste. But can that be trusted? Soon there will be at least a coven of witches on site…
It is not yet known what role Jamie Campbell Bower will play. But the actor, who most recently starred as the villain Vecna in “Stranger Things” and also appeared as a young Grindelwald in the “Harry Potter” films, seems made for the role of the mysterious occultist. Alexander Baptiste. After all, he plays opaque, but also charismatic characters particularly well. This is also indicated by director Chuck Russell, who explains in a press release why Campbell Bower is so perfect for the film.
In the tradition of great British actors, he has the charisma and acting skills to be a true chameleon, capable of playing a variety of characters. Speaking of Chuck Russell, the staff in the director’s chair is also interesting.
“Witchboard” remake by an experienced director
Than Chuck Russell is a true film veteran who also made a name for himself in the horror genre in the 1980s – as the author of “Dreamscape – Infernal Dreams”, as well as the director of “Nightmare III – Freddy Krueger Lives” and the remake “The Blob”.
In addition, Russell scored a real hit with Jim Carrey’s “The Mask” and he also staged Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Eraser” and Dwayne Johnson in “The Scorpion King”. After a break of more than ten years in cinema, he reported back a few years ago – albeit in the B-movie realm. Most recently, he directed John Travolta and Bruce Willis in the thriller “Paradise City”, which was released in the fall of 2022 in the US, but has not yet made it to Germany.
Filming on “Witchboard” is scheduled to begin in the spring, after the other roles are currently being cast. A publication is then expected in 2024.
