Pastries are popular. The whole family rejoices when it comes out of the oven. What could be more obvious than letting the kids help cook at Easter? If he works with Guetsli at Christmas, he can’t be so wrong at Easter. But there are a few tips to keep in mind.

With yeast dough, you can prepare beautiful Easter braided bunnies or chicks with yeast dough. An Easter cake is not that difficult. Pain au chocolat can be the perfect reminder of a holiday in France, and carrot cake has always been a classic.

A kitchen is designed according to the height of adults. Therefore, it usually makes sense to prepare the dough on the regular (dining) table. This table must necessarily be covered with a cloth or foil. Nothing stays clean while cooking.

With the oven, it is easier for children to assess the temperature than with the stove, but care still needs to be taken. Children should only keep the oven near their parents and with adequate protection (oven mitts).

Kneading dough is a great distraction if it doesn’t take too long. Working with a digital kitchen scale can also be exciting, with teens helping to weigh ingredients later and may even have to do some arithmetic.

A blender is incredibly interesting. It makes noise and – yes – mixes ingredients. However, it can also help create a big mess. Can you give the kids the blender? If only you could keep an eye on them.

It’s obvious to adults: we eat the cake because it’s delicious. The decorations are just a distraction: Except, perhaps, for the obligatory marzipan decorations on the carrot cake. Children see differently. So: Finally, let them decorate the cake.

Think twice: Is this a sensible recipe that really suits my kids? Should the dough rise or refrigerate, does that mean waiting time? What are we going to do with the kids then? Are all the ingredients really ready? Don’t go unprepared.

Cooking with kids can be a great idea. But sometimes the time isn’t right, the day, the level of interest, the weather… When in doubt, be prepared to finish the afternoon snack yourself and don’t force the pup to participate at all costs.
