New this week on Netflix: A “Walking Dead” star on vengeance and a controversial horror tip

Every Sunday we bring you the movie and series highlights that start on Netflix in the coming week. Sometimes there are titles that are worth watching and endlessly anticipated, sometimes the selection of major new releases is rather manageable – like this week. But there are a few titles, such as the black comedy series “Beef” with “The Walking Dead” star Steven Yeun or the horror insider tip “Pelican Blood”, the ending of which you will not soon forget. Here are the Netflix launches for the week of April 3-9, 2023:

Monday: The double Lochi-chen

Takeover – Completely swapped is, according to the scheme, a mistaken identity comedy – “with no embarrassing dropouts, but no big surprises either,” as it says in our FILMSTARTS review. It therefore gets an average of 2.5 out of 5 stars. Families and fans of the YouTuber twins Heiko and Roman Lochmann, known as “Die Lochis”, who star in this “Das Doppel Lottchen” update are welcome to check it out.

Tuesday: time for the watchlist

Netflix has not yet announced any feature films or series for Tuesday, so the week has started rather slowly. At least you have time to check one or the other title off your watchlist.

Wednesday: documentary and thriller

Netflix has a contrasting program on Wednesday: In the music documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I feel right now is about the musician of the same name and the question of how he “made it from a sensational performance from the Scottish provinces to a pop star and Grammy contender” (according to the official Netflix description). “Public Enemy: The Book of Revelation” is a Belgian crime series in which a police officer searches for the victims of the murderer she arrested months earlier.

Thursday: revenge and horror child

The two aforementioned titles will appear on Netflix on Thursday: In beef Failed contractor Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) and self-made entrepreneur Amy Lau (Ali Wong) collide in an innocent near miss, then become entangled in an increasingly escalating petty war.

In pelican blood Director Katrin Gebbe, on the other hand, tells the story of horse whisperer Wiebke (Nina Hoss), who adopts five-year-old Raya (Katerina Lipovska), who can no longer feel empathy or love due to early childhood trauma. Not only does Gebbe tell this story in a provocative and provocative way and with a very controversial ending, she also consistently uses stylistic devices from horror films.

Friday: Colorful all kinds

As so often, most movies and series start on Netflix on Friday, but the biggest titles are not necessarily included this week. The family-friendly fantasy movie Chupa caused a stir mainly because of the involuntarily dirty title, and the French thriller series is also starting Jusqu’ici Tout Va Bien or the celebrity drama series Transatlantic about a rescue operation in World War II.

And there are also some licensed titles that are new on April 7, including no sorry with Hape Kerkeling and the crime comedy Weiss beer in the blood as well as the sympathetic road movie Peanut Butter Falcon” starring Shia LaBeouf and Dakota Johnson, among others.

Saturday & Sunday: Supplies for “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” fans?

On Saturday, a new series will launch on Netflix that fans of courtroom shows in general and the surprise hit Extraordinary Attorney Woo in particular should pay attention to: The Korean Series Divorce lawyer Shin is about a former pianist who becomes a divorce lawyer after a series of tragic events.

Also new: the Thai drama hungry about a young street food chef who gets a job in a fancy restaurant. This promises to be a social drama somewhere between The Menu and Netflix’s Der Schacht and Kadaver.
