Because James Cameron draws an oppressive future scenario, a dark dystopia that deals with the consequences of advancing technologization as well as human primal fears and desires and the question of what family means to us – all in the face of the apocalypse.
Why Cameron is one of the greatest filmmakers of our time is also evident in his character drawings. Because not only does he transform one of the most famous and popular figures in action cinema with the T-800 by 180 degrees, transforming him from a futuristic Grim Reaper into a knight in (metallic) glittering armor. Moreover, he also established one of the strongest female action figures of all time in Sarah Connor played by Linda Hamilton.
