Mike Flanagan (“Doctor Sleep”, “Haunted Hill House”) has the new DC boss James Gunn And Peter Saffron proposed a movie about Batman villain Clayface. This is reported by the American trade magazine . However, it’s currently unclear what will become of this pitch: as Deadline points out, there was no contract, no concrete agreement, and not even a green light for a new film. At the same time, the studio didn’t say no either.
Flanagan has already responded to the report via Twitter responded, which many movie sites took as a contradiction or denial. On reflection, however, he really only writes that nothing concrete can be said about it and everything is “purely speculative”. However, he doesn’t say there wasn’t a meeting with DC:
The somewhat unclear situation is apparently due not only to the very early status of the project (if you can call it that), but also to the whole situation at DC. The superhero movie studio is currently in a major upheaval. In each case would be Flanagan and his production partner Trevor Macy have pitched a movie where Clayface wouldn’t be a villain and would stand on its own, So .
But maybe Clayface is also part of “The Batman2with Robert Pattinson. According to the magazine, director Matt Reeves is still juggling different scripts and/or script concepts and Clayface would be a major newcomer in one of them. This is all the more surprising considering Reeves’ realistic approach to The Batman and Clayface’s comic strip.
First appearing in the comics in 1940, Clayface is a dazzling character as countless characters have gone by this name throughout DC history and the villain’s story has been revised. However, the most famous version of the character is an actor named Basil Carlo, who becomes a clay creature and can change his appearance at will. Not only does he look quite terrifying in his clay form, he is also very strong and resilient and can shape his body into all kinds of weapons.
The character has also appeared in many past DC productions, such as the live-action series “Gotham” (played by Brian McManamon) or the grandiose animated series “Harley Quinn”, where Basil Karlo, voiced by Alan Tudyk in the original, is one of the absolute highlights that can be heard.
Long story short, whether Mike Flanagan will direct a Clayface movie, or the character appearing in The Batman 2, or maybe both or neither, remains to be seen for now. Incidentally, Flanagan and Macy are currently working on an adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” novels:
