Netflix brings back mega cult: now the protagonist is responding to fan criticism for her absence

“Power Rangers: Once & Always” inspires the numerous fans of the cult brand so much because the trailer already makes it clear that Netflix is in no way trying to reinvent the proven concept. No! As close to the original as possible – including messy costumes, slightly awkward-looking combat interludes, and most importantly, the return of numerous original stars.

David Yost, who already embodied Billy Cranston aka the Blue Ranger, and Walter Jones aka Zack Taylor, the Black Ranger, are back in the game. Steve Cardenas, Karan Ashley, Johnny Yong Bosch, and Catherine Sutherland are also known from the series, slipping back into their Power Rangers costumes. But there are also stars missing…

Amy Jo Johnson: ‘Maybe I didn’t want to wear tights when I was 50’

Above all Amy Joe Johnsonwho played the “Pink Ranger” Kimberly Hart from 1993 to 1995 in the original series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”, is not involved in the reboot — though she’s appeared in later projects in the franchise, even making a cameo appearance in the fan-hated 2017 Hollywood remake Power Rangers.

The fact that Johnson, like Jason David Frank (the Green Ranger), who died in November 2022, was in this remake but is now missing from the sequel to the original quickly sparked a social media story that spread more and more :

Both were accused of turning it down because of the money. They would have demanded too much from Netflix, which the budget for the project, which turned out to be quite small despite the streaming service behind them, would not have allowed. Johnson now clearly contradicted this story:

She and Frank decided against the reunion for their own reasons. She also gives a few reasons: “Maybe I didn’t want to wear tight tights when I was 50,” she says, referring to the famous costumes. “But maybe I couldn’t go to New Zealand for a month,” she says, referring to the shooting far away from her homeland.

In the end, however, she also makes it clear that it is not people’s business why the actress, who now also works as a director and author, refrained from a project. Still, she is looking forward to the film and especially to the performances of her friends David Yost and Walter Jones, she makes clear in another tweet.

Many fans now seem to understand the actress, as evidenced by the many positive messages under her tweet and now also more than 25,000 likes for her statement.

Until you can stream “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always”, you’ll have to wait a little longer. As of April 19, 2023, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and for allAvailable on Netflix.
