With the ‘Transformers’ series, cult action director Michael Bay (‘Bad Boys’, ‘Armageddon’) created some of the most spectacular and violent material combat ever seen on screen. While the filmmaker is now looking after Bayhem with movies like “6 Underground” or “Ambulance” apart from his robo-alien saga, “Creed II” director Steven Caple Jr. now the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons takes its place in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which hits theaters June 8, 2023.
And those who want to prepare well for the blockbuster will have the perfect opportunity to do so exactly one week in advance: Because on June 1, all previous installments of the “Transformers” saga will be released in an ultimate, strictly limited collection:
The set includes all Bay-directed chapters of the series – in addition to “Transformers” (2007), “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” (2009), “Transformers 3” (2011), “Transformers 4: Age of Extinction” ( 2014) and “Transformers 5: The Last Knight” (2017) – as well as the spin-off or prequel “Bumblebee” (2018) starring Hailee Steinfeld.
The Limited Edition consists of a box containing six Steelbooks, in which all six films are on board on both Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray. “Transformers” cuts a good figure not only on your shelf, but also on your TV – in razor-sharp 4K, which is of course especially worth seeing with the visually excellent CGI battles.
A new “Transformers” era is dawning
Of course you could argue at this point that the so-called makes little sense if it is only really complete for a short time. “Transformers” fans who want to experience the films in the best picture and sound quality and Optimus Prime and Co. would also like to give a place of honor on their shelves, will not go wrong with a purchase.
After all, with the Bay 5-pack and the prequel “Bumblebee” you get a round, more or less self-contained thing. The five-part main saga and the prequel stand alone, almost as a nice addition. For “Rise of the Beasts” there is not only a new face behind the camera, we also have a completely new cast in front of us (Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, among others). And with that, the saga should experience some kind of reboot: Because Rise of the Beasts is the first of three confirmed films that will form a new trilogy.
If “Transformers 8” and “Transformers 9” ever appear on disc, then certainly also as a 3-piece box including the predecessor – which you can then simply place next to the first collection. Provided, of course, that the two sequels, already confirmed in February 2022, actually appear as planned, and that the distributors still rely on physical data carriers until then…
