“Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures” is not aimed at the original fans, but at their children or, in many cases, children’s children. Than the target group is children aged three to five years. Nevertheless, the series is also interesting for older fans, as it takes us to the new era of the saga that will play a more important role in the future: the era of the High Republic.
It is a stage before (!) the events of “Star Wars: Episode I”. The Jedi are at the height of their power and believe the dark side has been defeated forever. Most recently, the era has already been the subject of numerous books. The upcoming live-action series “The Acolyte”, which will then be much darker and more mature, is also set during this time.
“Young Jedi Adventures”: Yoda and his boy!
But first comes Young Jedi Adventures. The three shorts now released give us a taste of the series and especially the new Jedi youths, who are central to the stories along with their teacher Yoda. It should also be the first episodes of the series.
In the first short film “Meet the Young Jedi” we meet the central youth of the series Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs. As they battle a training droid in the Jedi Temple on Tenoo, Kai explains who they are and what Jedi actually do. At the end, the two other main characters of the series appear with Nash and the droid RJ-83.
In the second short film “Lys, Friend of All Beings” Lys goes looking for a kitten and causes a lot of chaos in the process.
In the third short film “Kai the Droid Savior” the aforementioned RJ-83 is in trouble. That’s why Nash Jedi youth asks Kai for help, who of course immediately interrupts his training with Yoda…
The three short films, which are also the first episodes of the series, make it clear what the series will look like. The short stories, each only a few minutes long, each have a kind of educational message for the target audience. The other episodes or “shorts” as Disney calls it should have this as well.
Incidentally, “Young Jedi Adventures” is the first “Star Wars” series explicitly tailored to such a young audience. An animated children’s series was released from 2018 to 2020 with “Star Wars Resistance”, but it was more aimed at primary school children from 6 years old.
