For the past two years, new Marvel series have appeared on Disney almost every month: “WandaVision” started in January 2021 and ended in March 2021, before “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” started a few days later, and so on. Marvel fans almost never had to wait for supplies, there were only slightly longer breaks for “Loki” and for “Moon Knight”. But a lot has changed at Marvel since then.
Previously immune to crises and criticism, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is following Phase 4, which was unsatisfactory to many fans, the disappointing theatrical release of “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania”, the behind-the-scenes scenes of drama about Victoria Alonso and now very topical allegations against Kang actor Jonathan Majors suddenly on surprisingly shaky legs. So something has to change – and the effects are already being felt.
The “Secret Invasion” series, originally scheduled for 2022, was delayed to 2023 a while ago. But contrary to what some thought, the MCU series starring Samuel L. Jackson will not start in the spring of this year, but only during the summer: The release date of Secret Invasion on Disney+ is June 21, 2023. The series consists of six episodes, which are then released weekly as usual.
This launch date can be found on the corresponding Disney Plus page for “Secret Invasion” in English-speaking countries, several US movie sites unanimously report. In Germany, “Secret Invasion” is not yet available on Disney+. We have asked Disney if the date also applies in Germany, but that is more of a formality. We would be very surprised if that were not the case.
In any case, you can already see here what, according to statements by Marvel mastermind Kevin Feige, is now the new reality that MCU fans have to adapt to: As “Secret Invasion” shows, there will be significantly more distance between the individual Marvel series than before. The last episode “She-Hulk” appeared on October 13, 2022, almost eight months (!) before “Secret Invasion”. Fans have never had to wait so long for new material from the Marvel series on Disney+.
However, the wait for the next MCU series shouldn’t be that long. The broadcast of “Secret Invasion” is expected to end on July 26, 2023, but “LokiSeason 2 is expected to follow in late summer or fall 2023. There will likely be about two to three months between the two series. In any case, the second season with Tom Hiddleston should definitely come in 2023.
In 2024 it should then continue with the second season “What If…?”, the “Hawkeye” spin-off “Echo” and “Ironheart” with Riri Williams from “Black Panther 2”. There are no official start dates yet.
