A true horror legend returns in front of the camera for the upcoming sequel to “The Exorcist.”

With “Halloween”, “Halloween Kills” and “Halloween Ends”, David Gordon Green not only made the box office ring, but also caused fear and terror in the cinema. Since the concept of adding an all-new trilogy to a horror classic (ignoring the previous sequels) has proven itself, the production studio and Green are now going the same way. As has been known for some time, Green is currently working on a three-part sequel to William Friedkin’s masterpieceThe exorcist“.

The first of three new “The Exorcist” movies is currently being shot. While Ellen Burstyn (“Requiem For A Dream”) will reprise her role as Regan MacNeil’s mother in the film, it has now been confirmed that that Regan actress Linda Blair is also part of the new “Exorcist”. So there are two returnees of the original on board. exclusively reports that Linda Blair was only on set for a few days, suggesting she may not have much screen time.

Cinema comeback for Linda Blair

Horror fans will naturally rave about Linda Blair’s appearance, as her unsettling performance in “The Exorcist” made the then 12-year-old an absolute genre icon overnight. “The Exorcist II – The Heretic” featured Linda Blair in the lead role again, but the film not only failed commercially, but is also seen as an artistic failure (and will therefore likely be ignored in the new film). In addition, Linda Blair was still active in some series (for example “MacGyver” or “Supernatural”). The last time the actress starred in a major movie was in 1996’s Scream, where she had a small cameo as a pushy reporter.

In addition to Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn, the cast of the sequel to Exorcist also includes Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett, Jennifer Nettles, Olivia Marcus, Raphael Sbarge, and Okwui Okpokwasili. Meanwhile, David Gordon Green is not only in the director’s chair, but also wrote the screenplay with Peter Sattler. As with Halloween, the story itself was written by Green, Danny McBride, and Scott Teems. Filming wrapped this month and the first part of the Exorcist sequel trilogy is scheduled to hit theaters in Germany on October 12, 2023.
