Jenna Ortega makes a promise for the second season of “Wednesday”: horror fans will be especially happy!

After “Wednesday” launched on Netflix at the end of November 2022, it took just over a week for the series to be on everyone’s lips. The reason for this was the iconic dance sequence from Episode 4, which lead actress Jenna Ortega (“Scream VI”) completely improvised and could become a mega trend on TikTok. Yes, “Wednesday” has become a popular cultural phenomenon.

So it’s no wonder fans of the series are eagerly awaiting season 2, which has been confirmed for some time. It will be a while before this is reflected in the subscription to the streaming service with the big red N. It is currently believed that a premiere in 2024 is conceivable. Netflix will certainly not wait any longer so as not to let the hype around the series level off too much.

More Horror in Season 2 of “Wednesday”?

Jenna Ortega recently guest-starred on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. There, the actress also gave an update on the production of season 2: “We just started putting together a writer’s room and talking about it. And everyone says we really want to spice up the horror aspect and get Wednesday out of the romantic situation so she can just be herself and be so preoccupied with her own crimes.

You can watch the whole video here:

Jenna Ortega, who is a huge horror movie fan herself and is currently taking on Ghostface on the big screen for the second time in Scream 6, seems to have felt more in control of her character after the first season went through the roof “Wednesday”, so grandiose. The intensification of horror elements is therefore in line with Ortega’s statement in December 2022 has met:

“I’ve always been against the idea of a love triangle. With Tyler off the table, I feel like she’s not dealing with guys for a while. I feel like she and Xavier are just getting to a safe place. I think that there is an opportunity there for a very sweet platonic relationship. […] It hasn’t been shown often enough that men and women have secure platonic relationships that don’t turn romantic. That seems wonderful to see.”

One can only agree with that. Raising the gloom level in Wednesday’s season 2 definitely makes the season (even) more fun. Because even though there were not only monsters but also murders in season 1, the series was not particularly scary overall, although there were always morbid elements built into the events. So it will be interesting to see what awaits us (probably in 2024) on Netflix.
