Ever since he was a child, Guillermo del Toro has dreamed of transforming the classic Frankenstein into his own vision, as he has repeatedly revealed. He was very close a few times. In the late 2000s, a project seemed to be launched at Universal, the studio that popularized the character in horror film. There was another attempt later, which also failed.
But when Del Toro teamed up with streaming service Netflix, which just culminated in an Oscar triumph for “Pinocchio” for Best Animated Feature, also came”Frankensteinback on the agenda. Netflix has already bought the corresponding rights and wants to make the real movie possible for del Toro. The director of Pan’s Labyrinth will direct and write the screenplay.
Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield and Mia Goth in “Frankenstein”?
This is reported by the industry magazine he does the latter. While he’s still working on the script, he’s already meeting potential stars. It has long been known that “Moon Knight” and “Star Wars” star Oscar Isaac will come on board. Noisy This also applies to “Spider-Man” Andrew Garfield and also to Mia Goth, who is already a new icon of the genre with horror films like “X” and “Pearl”.
All three stars have not yet received contract offers, meaning their signing cannot be finalized yet, but it is said that they have already met Del Toro and told him they are ready to join. It can probably only fail due to scheduling conflicts, which of course is possible, which is why there is a question mark after the names.
Del Toro’s Own Version of “Frankenstein”
In the past, del Toro has revealed he’s not interested in simply reimagining Mary Shelley’s iconic classic Frankenstein. He doesn’t just want to tell the story of the origin of the famous monster from a different angle. He imagines an adventure story with the legendary creature.
It is not yet known whether this is still the case or whether he is now taking a different approach. It is also unknown whether del Toro sets the story against a historical background or in modern times. For the most part, one can only speculate on the roles of the stars. at least reports that Goth is meant to be a love interest for Doctor Frankenstein. We suspect that Isaac, who was also first approached by del Toro, embodies the Doctor. For example, Garfield could play his assistant. The character known as Fritz or Igor does not appear in Shelley’s classic, but has become an integral part of many “Frankenstein” stories. Of course, completely new roles have also been devised by del Toro for the two Marvel stars.
Incidentally, Doug Jones was already on board as a monster when it launched over a decade ago, and he’s an expert at impersonating fantastical creatures – especially in the del Toro movies, where he played Abe Sapien in the “Hellboy” adaptations, as Pan in “Pan’s Labyrinth” or as an amphibious man in “Shape Of Water”. It is still unknown whether he will also be involved in the Netflix version. Likewise, it is currently not possible to foresee when this might appear.
