class=”sc-97fd9fa8-0 jNFKxv”>

More than 100 years ago, the first Women’s Day was the day of the left-revolutionary struggle for equal rights and women’s suffrage. Because they were “overly free”, agitators were also attacked by middle-class women who did not allow their fellows to demonstrate and parade among street dung.

Today, women take to the streets to oppose domestic violence, injustice in wages and pensions, unpaid work, mostly in the home and family, but also to promote more flexible lifestyles.

March 8, 1921 became Women’s Day

German socialist Clara Zetkin (1857–1933) was the champion of the first women’s days. March 8, workers, soldiers’ wives and peasant women in St. It refers to the date of March 8, 1917, when he took to the streets in St. Petersburg and helped start the February Revolution.

At the 2nd International Conference of Communist Women held in Moscow in 1921, March 8 was officially declared an international day of remembrance. Women’s Day had happened on other dates before. Around May 5, 1918, Karl Marx’s 100th birthday.

The first European Women’s Day was celebrated on March 19, 1911 in Germany, Denmark, Austria-Hungary and Switzerland; March 18 is the day of commemoration of those who died during the March Revolution of 1848.

Women’s Day is also Mother’s Day in other countries.

Public holiday for everyone in Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar, Moldova, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Zambia, Serbia, Tajikistan 8 March , Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. But it’s a kind of Mother’s Day, where women receive flowers and “thank you”.

Women’s Day was banned in Nazi Germany, and “communist” events contradicted the ideology of women and mothers in the kitchen. It was celebrated only in the GDR after 1945. But after the 1989 reunification, Women’s Day experienced a renaissance in Germany.

Men also have fighting days today. Since 1999, November 19 is International Men’s Day. Supported by the United Nations, it is intended to “lead to greater gender balance”, improve men’s and men’s health, and show the disadvantages of men and boys. It occurs in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Australia, India, USA, Singapore, Malta, South Africa, Hungary, Ireland, Ghana, Austria, Canada, Denmark and Liechtenstein.

November 3, International Men’s Day (boss: Mikhail Gorbachev), a day of action for men’s health, first took place in Vienna in 2000. It is desirable to draw attention to the fact that men live an average of seven years less than women.

The younger the female, the more likely it is to get the male’s name.

In Italy, on March 8, women are given a yellow mimosa, a symbol of resistance fighters during the Fascist rule. In China, women take half a day off or receive small gifts from the company. Some restaurants and shops in Switzerland distribute flowers to female visitors on this day – but this is considered a blunder by many women, as it does not do justice to the seriousness of the matter.

According to their share in the population, women are less likely to commit crimes. The proportion of female suspects in crime statistics ranges from 15 to 17 percent (Federal Statistics Office). The most common crimes committed by women are gross violation of traffic rules, drunk driving and simple theft.

Since 2013, couples can use their own names when they get married. However, almost half (49.5 percent) of women who got married in 2013 or 2014 took their spouse’s surname. The younger the bride and groom, the more likely the woman is to take the man’s name. If the husband and wife are between the ages of 18 and 24, more than 70 percent of women take their husband’s surname.

The Swiss marriage law of 1988 puts women on an equal footing with men. The passage stating that the man is the head of the family and the woman should rule the house has been repealed.

In 1990, all cantons and communes granted women the right to vote. In 1996, the Equal Opportunity Act was enacted, which aims to eliminate the structural disadvantages of women in working life (low wages, unequal employment and promotion opportunities, sexual harassment).

The ten most popular apprenticeships for women in Switzerland (as of 2015) are clerk, healthcare professional, care professional, retail specialist, hairdresser, retail assistant, dental assistant, medical practice assistant, pharmacist assistant, health and social assistant. Young men want to train as (respectively) businessmen, electricians, computer specialists, polymechanics, retail specialists, logisticians, automobile specialists, farmers, draftsmen and cooks.

Women complete their education more often than men

In 1905, the first driving schools with only “male driving courses” were opened in Switzerland. In 1912, a driver’s license exam, which lasted for about ten minutes, was successful and was subsequently celebrated in a restaurant. In 1974, 63 percent of men and only 36 percent of women had a driver’s license. Today, 88 percent of men and 76 percent of women have IDs (Federal Bureau of Statistics micro-census mobility and traffic). On average, women take 29 driving lessons and men 20 before they dare to take the test. (Survey of 570 participants of the portal Fahranleitungervergleich.ch).

More than 18 percent of women in Switzerland are currently pursuing a degree at a university. For men, this rate is just under 14 percent. Males continue to predominate in applied technical schools.

Basically, women today have fewer children than in the past. Statistically, in 1950, a Swiss woman had 2.4 children. 2011 only 1.42. The number of births hit its lowest level in 2001 with just 1.38 children.

Life expectancy in Switzerland is 85.3 years for women, 81.5 years for men).

33.8 percent of companies established in Switzerland have at least one woman.
