Anyone who attended the mixed martial event “UFC 285” in Las Vegas this weekend not only saw former champions Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane compete to become the new world champion in their weight class, but surprisingly also faced Jake Gyllenhaal – not only in the audience, but even in the ring.
Video from MMA and boxing journalist Chisanga Malata shows Gyllenhaal and former MMA champion actor and stuntman Jay Hieron having their hearts beat:
The scene is, of course, part of filming – namely for Remake of the cult actor “Road House”. Directed by Doug Liman (“Mr. And Mrs. Smith,” “Edge Of Tomorrow”), Spider-Man: Far From Home villain Jake Gyllenhaal follows in the footsteps of Patrick Swayze.
He plays a man who hires himself out as a bouncer in a seedy nightclub, a so-called roadhouse. There he soon realizes that not all is as it seems. However, his past as a UFC fighter will serve him very well in the conflicts that soon arise. Because he can solve many problems with his fists. And it is precisely this past that also becomes part of the story, as evidenced by the scenes now filmed.
More videos of the event are circulating online. This is how the traditional pre-fight weigh-in was filmed, in the Gyllenhaal ever unleash a clear declaration of war on his adversary.
Also present at the event was martial arts superstar Conor McGregor, who also stars in the film. According to circulating photos, he and Gyllenhaal were clearly having fun watching the other fights.
By the way, this isn’t the first time Jake Gyllenhaal flexed his muscles and climbed into a ring. In “Southpaw” (see our article photo) he already played a fictional light heavyweight world champion who had to face his demons outside the ring.
While her “Southpaw” is currently on Netflix and Amazon Prime video* If you can stream with a subscription, there’s the “Road House” original. at WOW*. We’ll just have to wait for the remake. The actioner should appear in the course of 2023 or 2024 at the latest. It is still unknown whether it will come to the cinema first or end up directly on Amazon Prime Video. The streaming service took over the project by buying up the production company MGM.
In addition to Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor, there are also Billy Magnussen (“James Bond – No Time To Die”), Daniela Melchior (“The Suicide Squad”), Gbemisola Ikumelo (“The Last Tree”), Travis Van Winkle (You, Lukas Gage (Love, Victor), BK Cannon (Why Women Kill), Arturo Castro (The Terminal List), Dominique Columbus (Ray Donovan) and Beau Scarce (“Death Wish”).
