Robert De Niro will star in the upcoming Netflix title Zero Day. So far, the acting legend has not been seen in series at all, he only had cameos as himself in such works as “30 Rock” and “Extras”. “Zero Day” also marks the series’ first-ever starring role in his nearly 60-year acting career.
The industry magazine at the end of November 2022 already reported that Netflix wants to sign De Niro for the project of Eric Newman (“Narcos”) and Noah Oppenheim (“Jackie”). Now it was announced that the streaming service had ordered the complete miniseries, which ended in one season. Lesli Linka Glatter (“Homeland”, “The West Wing”) has also been confirmed as producer and director of all six episodes.
Netflix remains mysterious: this is “Zero Day”
So far, Netflix has only hinted at exactly what “Zero Day” is about. The story developed by Newman and Oppenheim in collaboration with two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and investigative journalist Michael S. Schmidt is described in the announcement as a “timely and terrifying” series that has been “snatched from reality” and a “sharp, blood-curdling conspiracy thriller”.
An official synopsis is still very vague: After that, “Zero Days” poses the questions that come to mind: How do we find the truth in a world in crisis that seems to be torn apart by forces beyond our control? In an age steeped in conspiracy stories and deceit, how many of these powers are the product of our own actions, perhaps even our own imaginations?
Robert De Niro as ex-president in the footsteps of Donald Trump?
In his earlier article reported also that Robert De Niro plays a former US president according to their sources. Interestingly, journalist Schmidt, who originally came up with the idea for the Netflix series, is also known for numerous major revelations about former US President Donald Trump’s misconduct. In addition, Trump works a lot with conspiracy stories. Even though “Zero Day” will be a fictional series, there may be some parallels with reality, from which the series has been “torn” according to the Netflix announcement…
While we’ll certainly have to wait a while for Zero Day to release (Netflix hasn’t made any announcements yet, but we’re expecting a launch sometime in 2024), the first series from the aforementioned other veteran star is coming very soon. Arnold Schwarzenegger can be seen in “Fubar” on Netflix from May 25, 2023:
