Actually, “Star Trek 4” should hit theaters at the end of 2023. But nothing followed the big announcement in February 2022. Meanwhile, the project was probably on the verge of complete collapse. That has now changed. Slated director Matt Shakman may have turned his attention to Marvel’s Fantastic Four, but producer JJ Abrams is on the hunt for a sequel. Meanwhile, Josh Friedman (“War of the Worlds”) and Cameron Squires (“WandaVision”) are already writing a script.

He also criticizes the exaggerated expectations of a “Star Trek” movie and raises the question of why the studio is hoping for such a high income at all: just because the Marvel movies are doing it? Opposite he says it like this:
“I’m not sure if Star Trek was ever made to write numbers like that. I used to think: Instead of trying to keep up with the wonders of the world, why don’t we just reach out to this really fanatical fan base, make the movie for a good price and happily go our separate ways?”
It remains to be seen if and when Star Trek 4 will come. There are plans, Chris Pine insists, but the future of the legendary sci-fi saga in cinema seems uncertain.
