There is not only rivalry in the film and series business. The two HDR formats HDR10 + and Dolby Vision have also been dueling technologically for a long time. Philips is one of the few TV manufacturers to support both technologies.

Philips Ambilight TV: with Dolby Vision and HDR10+
The big plus of the Philips Ambilight TV is the support of the two important HDR formats HDR10 + and Dolby Vision. Regardless of whether you use Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or other streaming services, with the PUS8807 you always get the best possible picture. For example, LG and Sony only support Dolby Vision. HDR10+ is the only HDR format on Samsung TVs.
Unlike the previous model, Philips has worked on the technology again with the 2022 PUS8807 and the 4K TV 120 hertz display which impresses with a smooth image, especially during sports broadcasts and gaming. The good viewing angle stability also ensures that long movie nights with several friends are possible without any problems.
On the other hand, you have to make compromises when it comes to maximum image contrast. The IPS screen cannot display a deep black. This is reserved for the more expensive upper class OLED TVs. The brightness of the screen is sufficient for subdued daylight, but it’s better not to watch movies or series in sunny weather.
Philips has thought about the connections. There are four HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K at 120 Hertz and NextGen consoles, plus a variable frame rate (VRR) for the lowest possible input lag when gaming. Thanks to ARC technology, all HDMI connections can also be used as audio outputs for soundbars and home theater systems.
There is little to complain about the operating system of the Philips Smart TV. With Android 11, all popular streaming apps are available to you. Only navigating through the menus and settings is a bit difficult and not very intuitive. After a few tries, this shouldn’t be a problem either.
A highlight of the Philips TV is of course the Ambilight, which casts colors on your wall in the home cinema that match the current TV image. You can optionally connect the Ambilight function with Philips Hue lamps and enjoy LED background lighting elsewhere in the living room.
All in all, with the Philips Ambilight TV PUS8807 you get a powerful smart TV for your home cinema., which scores especially with its extensive HDR support, its good image and the Ambilight function. This 4K TV is nowhere near the more expensive OLED models, but you don’t have to dig that deep into your pocket for that.
Philips Ambilight TV 707: The alternative with OLED screen
Speaking of more expensive OLED models: if you prefer to use this screen technology, the Philips OLED TV 707 with 55 inches (139 centimeters) is currently available Best price of 999 euros at Amazon.
That is no less than 44 percent savings compared to the suggested retail price. With the 707 you not only get Ambilight, but also OLED technology with 120 Hertz, HDR10 + and Dolby Vision. The 707 also has more technologies than the smaller PUS8807 for an even better image and relatively lower power consumption.
