In Amazon Prime Video’s extensive offering, you can discover not only good entertainment, but also challenging cinematic art that broadens the horizon and reverberates in the memory for a long time. It only becomes problematic if you let one or the other pearl vegetate unnoticed on your watch list for a little too long. Because as usual, Prime Video cleans up its own catalog from time to time.
That will also be the case in the coming days, because soon some pretty interesting films from the Amazon Prime Video program will be flying around again. Including not only Western stuff, but also a real brutal comedy in which Quentin Tarantino sees the end of the world coming, an indie insider tip and a complete Scandinavian crime series. We’re also now pointing out all those movies you need to quickly work through from your Prime Video watch list right now…
Only until March 2 on Amazon Prime Video
“The murder of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford“: For the author of these lines, “Jesse James” is the best western of all time next to “Corps Pave His Way”. But don’t expect leaden firefights. Instead, Andrew Dominik (“Blonde”) talks elegiacally about the formation of legends, envy, depression and self-destruction. Excellent cast with Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck. (3 out of 5 stars)
“Appaloosa“: In addition to being active as an actor (most recently in “Top Gun: Maverick”), Ed Harris is also trying his hand at directing. For example, in the case of the western “Appaloosa”, which has never appeared in cinemas in this country, but was released directly on DVD. If you like the classic genre, you can take a look here. In addition to Harris, the cast also includes Viggo Mortensen and Renée Zellweger (2.5 out of 5 stars).
Only until March 4 on Amazon Prime Video
“super dude“: With “Superman”, Richard Donner created one of the first true superhero blockbusters. Of course it looks a bit outdated these days, but this man of steel undoubtedly brings a lot of charm and love for the template. So if you haven’t seen Superman yet, hurry up! (4 out of 5 stars)
“Little Nicky“: Adam Sandler comedies are a matter of taste. No question at all. But if you need it really brutal again, you should definitely watch “Little Nicky”. Not only because Sandler grins his way through the entire film, but also because of the cameo of Quentin Tarantino, who sees the apocalypse coming here as a visually impaired street preacher!
“The King of Staten Island“: Got swallowed up a bit by Corona, but it’s a really good tragic comedy. In the lead role, Pete Davidson shows what he is capable of as a serious actor, and Judd Apatow again finds plenty of interpersonal everyday poetry between vulgar statements. Despite the lack of structure you feel really well taken care of. (4 out of 5 stars)
Only until March 5 on Amazon Prime Video
“grace“: The first volume of the highly successful Carl Morck novels by Danish author Jussi-Adler-Olsen. If you have a soft spot for Nordic thrillers, you will get your money’s worth with “Mercy”. Because the film is not only firmly staged, but also quite exciting for long stretches. (3 out of 5 stars).
“desecration“: Those who loved “Mercy” will love “Desecration” as well, because the sequel connects seamlessly to its predecessor. Even though the original novel is even stronger, the adaptation is particularly convincing in terms of craftsmanship. (3 out of 5 stars)
“rescue“: The third volume of Carl Morck’s novels breaks more than ever with the original. This is because the book is over 100 pages longer than its two predecessors at 592 pages. The result is nevertheless an atmospheric guesswork. (3 out of 5 stars)
“contempt“: And “Contempt” is not an outlier in the series either, but uses all the strengths and weaknesses that could also be discovered in “Mercy”, “Desecration” and “Redemption”. Christoffer Boe has succeeded in creating an exciting thriller that captivates with its depressing and historically very interesting story. (3 out of 5 stars)
