‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ wins SAG Awards

The film “Everything Everywhere All At Once” swept the 29th edition of the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards), winning – among other awards – the most relevant one, the one that recognizes the best cast or ensemble of the film season.

The film directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won four of the five awards it won as a finalist at this gala ceremony held in Los Angeles (USA) and is already an Oscar favorite, after being crowned at the Critics Choice and Producers Guild Awards.

“My first film was shot with Clark Gable and then for years different manufacturers told me that we Asians can’t make it good papers… Look at us now!” said James Hong (94 years old), accompanied by other classmates, as he accepted the Screen Actors Guild award.

Hong, who has a film career spanning seven decades, concluded his speech by joking about the nationality of his co-star. Jamie Lee Curtis: “And, well, she’s not Asian, but she looks like she is.”

Title “Everything everywhere and at once” (“Todo En Todos Partes Al Simo Tiempo”, in Spanish) was also recorded with categories from the best actress protagonist thanks to the triumph of Michelle Yeoh; to Curtis herself winning Best Supporting Actress; and the success of Ke Huy Quan, Best Supporting Actor.

Only film award of the night that did not fall on the side of the work of the filmmakers popularly known as “Los Daniels” is the best leading actor, which went to an American Brendan Fraser for his contribution to the psychological drama “Whale”.

“I think my heart is going to explode. Thank you for recognizing my career, with its ups and downs, but I can say I’ve never given up,” he said through tears after picking up Screen Actors Guild of America Award122,600 interpreters who make up this institution can participate in the voting.

British BAFTA winner Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” was the big disappointment of the day, not winning any of the five awards it was nominated for.

He received the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award, the union’s annual recognition of an actor for professional and humanitarian achievements. Sally Field by the hand of Andrew Garfieldwith whom he worked together on two films “The Amazing Spider-Man” (“The Amazing Spider-Man”, in Spanish).

Likewise, Latin representationwhich arrived led by the Spanish-Cuban Ana de Armas (“Blonde”), her aspirations were cut short in a performance that already left Mexican Diego Calva (“Babylon”) out of the nominations.

“The White Lotus” and “Abbott Elementary” win in the TV sections

During this event, the most outstanding works were presented small screenwhich this year went to the second seasons of the series “The White Lotus” (HBO Max) and “Abbott Elementary” (ABC), winners in the category the best drama series and the best comedy seriesrespectively.

Both productions started as favorites after triumphing at the Golden Globes, and even “Abbott Elementary” (“Abbott College” in Spanish) was also a star in the critics’ choice.

Apart from the best drama series, HBO Max recognition of Jennifer Coolidge as a best drama actress; something that, with the victory of Jason Bateman (“Ozark”) in the male version of this genre, only his main competitor on the platform market, Netflix, could be opposed.

For its part, “Abbott Elementary” did not win in the acting comedy categories as the award for best performer went to Jean Samart (“Hacks,” HBO Max) and Best Actor for Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear,” Hulu).

Hispanic Jenna Ortega was also snubbed for best actress in a comedy series for her critically acclaimed role in Netflix’s hit production “Wednesday.”

Finally, Sam Elliott won the award for best actress in a miniseries for her role in “1883” (Paramount+) and Jessica Chastain did the same thanks to the limited series “George & Tammy”.

The 29th edition of the Screen Actors Guild Awards will also be remembered as the first approach of one of the most important film awards in the USA to “streaming” platforms, since the gala was broadcast in its entirety on the channel Youtube from Netflix.
