‘Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania’: Who Was David Jones And Why Is He Mentioned In The Closing Credits Of The Marvel Blockbuster?

It happens again and again that films and series are dedicated to a recently deceased person who was somehow connected to the production in question or had a personal relationship with those responsible. There have been several such dedications to Marvel as well, most prominently of course for comics legend Stan Lee and “Black Panther” Chadwick Boseman (who were not only honored in the credits, but also in the Marvel Studios logo).

However, if the person being immortalized in this way isn’t one of the stars in front of the camera or some other well-known name (like Stan Lee), then all the more people will wonder what the person’s name is all about themselves – so now also in the case of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘, where the overlay reads ‘In Memory of David Jones’ at the end of the credits.

A lot of people here in particular should have noticed that, thanks to the regular mid- and post-credits scenes (which, of course, also appear in “Ant-Man 3”), the MCU has long since conditioned its audience to stay on top of the credits. So we will explain to you who David Jones was.

That was David Jones

David Jones was a Hollywood effects artist and modeller who died of cancer in April 2022 at the age of 74. However, he even ended his career in the film industry a few years earlier. His latest work is listed on IMDb as his contribution to the models in the 2004 anarcho-puppet comedy Team America.

From this it is already clear: David Jones was not directly involved in the production of Ant And The Wasp: Quantumania or any other MCU adventure. However, as a long-time employee of the securities pioneer company ILM, now owned by Disney, and director of the short film “Choose Your Tomorrow”, he was in favor of a Disney World attraction Part of the larger Disney family. Above all, he has also contributed to a number of groundbreaking films that have decisively advanced the development of visual effects — most notably the very first “Star Wars” movie and Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi classic “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”

It’s only fitting that David Jones’ name now appears on a Disney production like Ant-Man 3, which not only relies so heavily on visual effects to visualize its quantum world, but also draws noticeably from Star Wars. Jones’ other projects also include well-known works such as Hunt for Red October, Alien 3, Return of Batman, Outbreak and Species, for which he also modeled, and Air Force One” and the sci-fi hit “Starship Troopers”, where he played a major role. played in the visual effects.
