The Baftas are torn between war and comedy

The Bafta Awards, presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, will be debated this Sunday between the brutality of war represented by “All Quiet On The Western Front,” the most-nominated foreign-language film in history, and the noir comedy “Banshees of Inisherin” and surreal comedy “Everything everywhere at once”.

The ceremony will take place this Sunday in the British capital, with a change of scenery for the first time since 2016. The gala moves from the magnificent Royal Albert Hall to the Royal Festival Hall, on the banks of the Thames. The newer but less historic setup is part of an academic deal with the Royal Festival Hall, which already hosts the Bafta awards for TV and video games.

Spanish-Cuban actress Ana de Armas is nominated in category for the best leading actress, for a role Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde”, and Cate Blanchett, for “Tár” and Michelle Yeoh, for “Everything Everywhere All At Once”, the main favorites for this award, will fight for the award.

The ceremony will be directed by Richard E. Grant, who in his lifetime was nominated for an Oscar, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for his performance in the film “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”.}

This will also be the first gala after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Apart from the presence of Prince William and his wife Kate MiddletonHelen Mirren, who played the monarch in the 2006 film The Queen, will pay tribute to the late queen.
