And if the new place has really whetted your appetite for Disney adventure, you won’t have long to wait: “Arielle, the Little Mermaid” will be in cinemas from May 25, 2023. The live-action adaptation was directed by Disney veteran Rob Marshall (“Into The Woods,” “Mary Poppins Returns”) and the cast is definitely worth seeing (or hearing): In addition to Halle Bailey as Ariel and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, there are also Melissa McCarthy as the sea witch Ursula (both first seen in the new trailer), Javier Bardem as King Triton, Awkwafina as the seagull Scuttle, Daveed Diggs as the crab Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Fisch Fabius and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Chef Louis.

The original hits and new songs

And speaking of Lin-Manuel Miranda, the actor, director (“tick, tick… Boom!”) and composer (“Hamilton”) not only took on a role, but also composed new music for “The Little Mermaid” – along with Alan Menken, who wrote the music for the animated original. Of course the big hits like “Unter dem Meer” and Co. from the animated film can also be heard in the remake, the new tracks serve as an addition.

By the way, the next Disney princess to hit the screen in a live-action adaptation is Snow White. Played by “West Side Story” star Rachel Zegler, “Snow White” is set to hit theaters March 21, 2024. Just a few months later, the Lion King can once again roar in cinemas – it starts on July 4, 2024 “Mufasa: The Lion King” sequel.
