For those looking forward to Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s Batgirl movie, Warner CEO David Zaslav’s late 2022 decision came as a huge blow. The comic book adaptation, which would star Leslie Grace (“In The Heights”) as Bat-Woman, had already been filmed and ready for editing when it was announced that the film would not be released.
The reasons for this may have been complex and some of them have already been explained by James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) and Peter Safran (“The Nun 2”), who have been guiding the fate of the DC Universe for some time now. short period of time. In particular, Safran’s statement that “Batgirl” was “unpublishable” stuck. It’s easy to understand how hard that sentence must have hit the people who worked on the film both in front of and behind the camera – even if the harsh words are put into perspective when read and interpreted in context. ‘Batgirl’ star Leslie Grace: ‘The movie is great’
Shortly after Batgirl’s official departure, Grace responded to the news via Instagram. She thanked all her colleagues, raved about the great shots and saluted all ‘Batgirl’ fans. There was no real explanation or critical words – until now.
In the interview, Grace explains that she had several conversations with Warner about the film and learned a thing or two about filmmaking. Much was explained to her about budgets and plans, but little about creativity. In the end, she had one wish come true: she wanted to see the unfinished film “Batgirl” – despite missing scenes, partly uncut and without special effects.
“The movie I got to see – the scenes that were there – were great. There was definitely potential for a good movie in my opinion,” Grace explained. She also hopes individual scenes will be released at some point. Grace can’t say yet if she’ll slip into a “Batgirl” role again in the future.
Incidentally, Grace is not alone in her positive opinion of Batgirl. You can learn more about the movie, which will never air, here:
