New to Amazon Prime Video: revenge ripper featuring FSK 18, sci-fi end of the world with trash factor and essentials for Nicolas Cage fans

Amazon Prime Video is constantly adding top-rated titles to its lineup – this Friday (February 17) alone, for example, will land the third and final season “Picard”, the second season “Carnival Row” and the horror board “Malignant”. from “Saw” and “Conjuring” creator James Wan three hits in one fell swoop on the streaming platform. It is therefore quite acceptable that the newcomers are less prominent on other days.

For example, today you can look forward to a colorful film potpourri, some of which have been around for a few years or were produced for little money, but may still be of interest to fans of relevant genres:

Fantasy romance and gangster cinema with a star cast

Fans of Nicolas Cage can expect an atypical, but certainly worthwhile addition: because in the fantasy novel “City of Angels” the Oscar winner does not shoot as freely as in some of his more crazy genre films. But even if the adventure about an angel (Cage), who accompanies the deceased to the afterlife, can’t quite keep up with his role model, it’s worth a look. In a direct comparison, Wim Wenders’ original “Der Himmel über Berlin” remains the better film, and it is not for nothing that it is one of the great milestones of German cinema.

“22 Bullets”, on the other hand, is aimed more at friends of hopeless revenge-crackers. The film adaptation of the novel about a mafia killer (Jean Reno), who is overtaken by his dark past and eventually goes on a sinister revenge campaign, is a hard genre cinema – and was not released by the FSK for over 18 years for nothing.

Sci-Fi trash, direct-to-video action and animation fun

Unfortunately, Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi disaster movie “Moonfall” was not the spectacle many of his fans had hoped for and flopped mercilessly at the box office. Or that you like “Moon Crash” better? The cheap imitation of “Sharknado” studio Asylum is now available as a subscription to Prime Video – but beware, it’s really only for low-budget enthusiasts with a penchant for junk!

With “Blackout – In the Web of the Cartel” you might also think that you have a rip-off in front of you – at least when you look at the poster, which probably not entirely coincidentally evokes memories of “John Wick “. Will ‘Transformers’ and ‘Shotgun Wedding’ star Josh Duhamel cut a good figure as a killer like Keanu Reeves? It should at least come down to business in the FSK 18 action.

*

Fans of animated films, who may also enjoy sitting in front of the television with their offspring, can look forward to “trolling” – although “happy” is relative. The film scores with a unique look and a groovy soundtrack, but the content is not worth mentioning.

If you’re also looking for new things to add to your watchlist, you’ve got until February 17, 2023 to watch the full Harry Potter saga on Prime. After that you have to pay extra for it. Which titles will end up on the platform for this? The official new products announced by Amazon can be found in the following article (and usually expanded with a few other titles added spontaneously):
