After Nicolas Cage (“The Color from Space”) has been pushed into the trash a little too often in recent years and has been incomprehensibly laughed at for his uninhibited performance art, people now seem to realize how great the Oscar winner is. Films such as “Joe”, “Mandy” and “Pig”, which received critical acclaim, are responsible for the change of heart. Nicolas Cage will soon expand his role portfolio with another iconic character, because in “Renfield” the cult actor takes on the role of Count Dracula!
But that’s not all, because Nicolas Cage is a busy artist (which is also one of the reasons why he was repeatedly laughed at in a somewhat convulsive way). With “Longlegs” by Osgood Perkins (“Gretel & Hansel”), the actor already has another film in the pipeline in which he embodies a notorious serial killer. This is also new territory for Cage, who only once hunted down a serial killer (in 2013’s The Frozen Ground). It is also known who will start the investigation against him in the “Longlegs” case.
Maika Monroe chases Nicolas Cage
This is Maika Monroe, who is probably best known for the horror indie hit “It Follows”. Monroe also starred in Independence Day: Return, The Guest, Greta, and Hot Summer Nights alongside Timothee Chalamet. In “Longlegs,” the young actress now embodies an FBI candidate named Lee Harker, tasked with capturing a vicious serial killer (Cage). During her investigation, which gradually leads her to delve into the occult, Harker discovers more and more personal connections to the killer.
That sounds a bit like “The Silence of the Lambs”, although “Longlegs” of course takes a slightly different approach to the psychological duel between killer and investigator. Serial killer fans can at least look forward to more stocks again. Because even if “Longlegs” is not based on true events, we seem to expect an atmospheric thriller that also gives us some insight into the human abyss. And to see Nicolas Cage again in what is probably a truly diabolical role is exciting enough in itself.
