Rupert Grint broke through as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter adventures. For a full decade, from ages 11 to 22, Grint starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Stone in the superhit fantasy franchise, becoming an integral part of popular culture. Rupert Grint has now revealed in an interview that the experience of being part of a giant franchise can also be quite exhausting.
Talking to the Rupert Grint explained that working on Harry Potter was “quite overwhelming”. And you can certainly understand his statement – especially at a young age, being able to function continuously requires a lot of ambition, courage and discipline. Grint notes, “Shooting took us most of the year, then we spent the rest of the time shooting commercials.”
Because Rupert Grint and Co. spent almost all year on “Harry Potter” – and for years – the films should gradually become an integral part of his personality, as the actor explained: “In in the films we have merged into one entity. In the end I played myself. The lines were blurry. I even reacted when someone called me Ron.”
A break was needed
Fortunately, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 wrapped up filming before things could get out of hand: “It was an out-of-body experience for a while, but I think we did a good job when we stopped. If we had continued, it would have gone downhill.” So the break Grint took after the Harry Potter movies was much needed to find himself again.
Meanwhile, Rupert Grint is mainly interested in participating in the dark genre. The actor recently appeared in an episode of Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities and the mystery series Servant on AppleTV+. Grint will soon be appearing on the big screen in Knock At The Cabin. This is the new movie from M. Night Shymalan (“The Sixth Sense”), which will hit German cinemas on February 9.
