In “Violent Night,” little Trudy (Leah Brady) only wishes for her parents to get back together. But the first Christmas is coming for the very wealthy patriarch Gertrude (Beverly D’Angelo). However, the party turns out to be particularly uncontemplative, as the catering team turns out to be a mercenary who takes the family hostage. What the bad guys don’t know is that Santa Claus (David Harbour) landed on the roof shortly before – and he’s not only pretty drunk, but damn hard.
This premise promises a lot of fun, which is also confirmed by our FILMSTARTS review. The conclusion states: “‘Violent Night’ performs very well at its particularly graphic moments where extra blood and puke spurts out.” At the box office, that led to quite a respectable success, because with a budget of $ 20 million, the Christmas stunner managed to collect no less than $ 76 million. It is therefore not surprising that a sequel is in development!
“Violent Night 2” is Coming – Are the Creators of “John Wick” Back?
While “Violent Night” was directed by “Dead Snow” creator Tommy Wirkola, 87North handled the production. This is the action forge of “John Wick” creator David Leitch and his partner Kelly McCormick. Recently, the duo released “Nobody” or “Bullet Train”. The company is also responsible for training actors for action scenes. It can be assumed that David Leitch and his production company will again be involved in “Violent Night”. However, this is not yet official.
In any case, it has already been confirmed that Tommy Wirkola will direct again. Opposite T the filmmaker said, “We have conversations, we make deals and we make things right. We have time to write the script and make the story work.” Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, who also wrote the script for “Violent Night,” will again be responsible.
During the conversation, Wirkola also gave a little hint of what it might be about: “We have some ideas, Pat, Josh, the producers and me. We’ve talked about where we’re going and what we want to see. There are things we haven’t covered, like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves. But as far as the story goes, I think we have a really, really cool ideawhich expands the world and scope, but still has the tone we loved from the first episode.
If work on the sequel goes well, Violent Night 2 could hit theaters in time for Christmas 2024.
