After six seasons, “Outlander” continues to enjoy great popularity around the world – and it shows once again with an early renewal. While work on the upcoming seventh season is in full swing (the U.S. launch is scheduled for Summer 2023), confirms that Outlander will also get an eighth season.
The whole thing has a drop of bitterness for fans though, because In the course of the Season 8 announcement, it was also announced that this will conclude the series. The stars Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan made this known personally in a video message:
The fact that the time for the end of the series has been set so far in advance should at least ensure that the mix of historical drama and time travel romance gets a round end, although fans will certainly want to enjoy the love story that the Borders of time and space, Claire (Balfe) and Jamie (Heuhan) would have attended even longer.
But they still have to get used to the idea we still have two full seasons with a total of 26 episodes (16 in season 7, 10 in season 8) ahead of us. “Outlander” fans who follow the series on Netflix in this country (which will probably be most of them) can even look forward to three seasons, as only the first five seasons are available on the streaming platform so far. Meanwhile, Season 6 can be purchased digitally through VoD providers like Amazon. When she will find her way to Netflix is not yet certain.

There’s more to come after Season 8
And there’s another consolation: even if the story about Claire (Balfe) and Jamie (Heughan) ends with the eighth season of “Outlander”, we don’t have to say goodbye to the series universe for good. As US trade journals unanimously report, has the previously announced spin-off “Outlander: Blood of my bloodFinally got the green light.
“Blood of my blood” is one Prequel series that focuses on Jamie’s parents and their romance, in which some well-known names and faces should appear. The first season will consist of ten episodes, but probably won’t start until after season 8 of the main series, which we can’t expect until 2024 at the earliest.
Does the series end differently than the books?
For “Outlander” fans who watch the series as well as read Diana Gabaldon’s underlying book series, it should be interesting how much the endings will differ from the original and the adaptation. The fact is that with the end of season 8, not everything from the novels can flow into the plot of the series for a long time.

Because even though events from different books were mixed up again and again in the individual “Outlander” seasons, it was often roughly based on the fact that part of the original was adapted by one season. And the main book series about Jamie and Claire already has nine parts, a tenth is in the works, but could possibly be the last.
Depending on whether this will actually be the case it can also become an exciting race in which medium the story will end first – and whether author Gabaldon has already revealed the ending of the series to the series creators, as in the case of ‘Game Of Thrones’, or whether she is finally going her own way with the edit.
