New on Netflix this week: Competition for ‘Top Gun 2’, Christopher Nolan’s latest robo-mercenary sci-fi masterpiece

In the past week, Netflix subscribers could look forward to new episodes of the hit series “Vikings: Valhalla” and “Sky Rojo” – and this week you can expect some special treats: from the start of a series of cult Star-studded revivals and entirely new exclusive movies for the best movie of 2020. Here are the Netflix highlights from the week of January 16-22, 2023:

Monday: The calm before the storm

Those who are still working on the innovations of the past few weeks can use Monday to further work through their watch list.

Tuesday: Mindfuck by Christopher Nolan

In “Tenet,” super-director Christopher Nolan sends John David Washington on a top-secret mission to prevent World War III – once again playing with the construction of time. After films like “Memento” that walks backwards, the wormhole odyssey “Interstellar” and “Dunkirk”, which takes place in three time planes, this time he has his protagonist play both forwards and backwards. The result: a masterpiece and for us the best film of 2020 that gets better the more you watch it.

Wednesday: Watch “Tenet” again right away

Those who looked directly at Nolan’s cracker on Tuesday and still have a few question marks on their forehead can simply look back this Wednesday. Experience shows that some ambiguities are self-evident on a second attempt shortly after the first viewing: new Netflix content will not be available until Thursday anyway.

Thursday: Series cult 2.0

In addition to the chilling animated series “Junji Ito Maniac: Japanes Tales Of The Macabre”, the sequel to the cult series “That 70 Years Show” will begin exclusively with the red “N” on January 19. That ’90s Show! focuses on Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna’s (Laura Prepon) daughter and her friends, but the original stars, including Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, also pop in.

Friday: supplement for “Top Gun” fans

“Top Gun 2: Maverick” gave us one of the most gripping cinematic experiences of the previous year and enjoyed tremendous popularity. With “Devotion” there is now fresh stock for all fans of the aviation spectacle – without Tom Cruise, but again with Glen Powell. Also on board is shooting star Jonathan Majors, who we’ll see soon in Creed III and Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania.

Train To Busan creator Sang-Ho Yeon unleashes a robot mercenary in Jung_E: Warrior’s Memory, and another explosive action spectacle from India in Mission Majnu. In addition, the Israeli agent series “Fauda” is entering its fourth season. With the first season “Sahmaran” a new Turkish fantasy series is launched.

Saturday: Fantasy supplies from Korea

Anyone who has become a Korea lover with series hits like “Squid Game”, “All Of Us Are Dead” or “Hellbound” can look forward to “Alchemy Of Souls” just in time for the weekend. The series about an old, powerful witch who wants to regain her dreaded powers was a mega hit in South Korea. Now we finally have the first episodes.

Sunday: Work off the watch list

No major new releases were announced for Sunday – perfect for dedicating yourself at the end of the week to the new products you didn’t have time for the days before.
