Four years after the end of “Sons Of Anarchy”, the authoring duo of Kurt Sutter and Elgin James expanded the popular motorcycle universe with the offshoot “Mayans MC” – also with great success. For many fans of the parent series, the spin-off quickly became a worthy successor. In terms of length, however, the sequel “Sons Of Anarchy” will not be able to keep up.
As American trade magazines unanimously report, the boss of the responsible broadcaster FX has now announced that “Mayans MC” will stop after the upcoming fifth season.
This means that the series has two seasons less than “Sons Of Anarchy”, but you can’t match “SOA” in terms of number of episodes. The last season of “Mayans MC” will probably contain (approximately) ten episodes again, so that the series should be 50 episodes in total and thus almost half as extensive as the 92 episode “Sons Of Anarchy”.
While the series’ many fans would have loved to see more of EZ (JD Pardo) and his Mayans Motorcycle Club, the earlier ending might just be right for the story. The mother series managed to inspire until the seventh season, but a round closure should ultimately make everyone happier than an unnecessary extension.
Major ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ crossover in finals?
One can only hope that one season is enough to bring all the plot threads and character fates to a satisfying conclusion. Showrunner Elgin James, however, indicated in the context of season 4 that he already had precise ideas for this and that a fifth season could possibly be the last.
The latest installments definitely have the potential to become a real highlight for fans of the entire motorcycle universe. Because – without giving too much away – there is now another open war between the Mayans and the SAMCRO bikers known from “Sons Of Anarchy”, opening up the possibility of a massive crossover worthy of a finale.

the fifth and final Mayans MC season is scheduled to launch in the US in the course of 2023 – when exactly is not yet known. In Germany, the premiere should then take place a few months later via Sky and the associated streaming service WOW (where the first four seasons can currently be seen), before the episodes eventually land on Disney+ (which only hosts the first three seasons so far).
